The Moto G4 Plus may be a bit old but it’s finally getting a taste of the cookie. Actually, the phone received Android 8.0 back in September 2017 but it’s only now that it’s receiving Android 8.1 Oreo. We were hoping for Android Pie but Motorola can only give another bite of the Oreo. This particular software update brings important enhancements on Bluetooth connection, data saver, battery features, notification controls, and multitasking among others. If you plan on getting this one for your G4 Plus, please remember that you can no longer downgrade to an old software version.
The update also delivers the December 1 2018 Android security patches plus a number of bug fixes and stability improvements. Make sure your phone’s battery is at least charged to 50% and is connected to a stable WiFi network.
Meanwhile, the Moto Z3 Play will receive Android 9.0 Pie. A slice of Pie will bring a number of enhancements to top features like split screen, Do Not Disturb mode, Quick Settings, and notification control. Check out the new Intuitive Navigation and Recent App, colorful settings menu, and experience longer battery life with Adaptive battery.
Also expect the following: power efficiency, performance improvements, background app privacy, and security enhancements, data encryption, and Wi-Fi optimization. Motorola notes that some announced Android 9 Pie features may not be available on the Moto Z3 Play because of compatibility.
