A few days ago, a Walmart employee may have accidentally placed Xiaomi’s Mi Box on sale, as it was not supposed to be officially released until this month. Well, that is now official (and hopefully they didn’t get fired) as the Xiaomi official website is now carrying the device, and you can get it for, as expected, below $100. For just twice the amount of a Chromecast at $69, you now get your own Android TV device to watch your videos on a larger screen.
Because of that mistake and also various leaks and rumors, we basically know a lot about the Mi Box already. It is powered by a quad-core ARM processor and has 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage but can be expanded through a USB flash drive. It has an HDMI port that can output 4K video at 60fps to your TV. It comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.
It also comes with a slim remote control that has a built-in microphone so you can order your Mi Box around through voice controls, kind of what the Apple TV does. It will also be selling a separate game controller because one of the joys of having an Android TV box is that you can play games as well on a larger screen, and you can even play against or with your friends.
The Xiaomi Mi Box is now available for purchase on the official website for just $69. It will start shipping out by October 6. You can also just wait for it to be available at local retailers, since Walmart obviously will have it soon.
