If you’re an owner of a Blackberry Priv, the OEM’s first (and hopefully not last) foray into Android smartphones, then you might want to sign up for their beta program while you still can. That is, if you’re super duper stoked to have the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update on your device. They have announced that they will start rolling out the beta update to a small group of testers first and then gradually expand to a larger number until all who signed up for the beta program will get it.
The reason for the gradual rollout is that they want to start out with a small group first in order to monitor some critical issues that may arise. They will then expand to larger and larger groups until by the end of the week, all who have signed up on the Blackberry Priv beta program will then get the Marshmallow beta update.
If you are part of the beta program already, make sure that your diagnostic reporting option is turned on. If you’ve disabled it or if you haven’t completed that step, then you won’t be able to receive the Marshmallow beta update. You’ll receive a ping from the OS that an update is available. Or if you’re too impatient, you can head on over to Settings > About phone > System and see if the update is available.
It would be interesting to see how Marshmallow would look on the Blackberry Priv, among other things. The OEM recently reported that sales for this device have been less than satisfactory and that they’re looking at producing two more mid-range devices.
