We aren’t even at MWC 2015 yet, but Google already wants us to look forward to its annual big event, and for good reason. The tech giant has just revealed the dates for Google I/O 2015 and it will take place on 28th and 29th May. It will still be in Moscone Center West, San Francisco but, like last year, getting into the event will partly be a game of chance, so Google is giving a very early heads up to those looking forward to being there in person.

Registrations won’t open until March 17, 9:00 a.m. PDT all the way up to March 19, 5:00 p.m. EDT. But like last year, it won’t be a straightforward matter. A registration is basically a lottery ticket and you may or may not get chosen to attend the event, which might be quite a hassle for those trying to book flights and hotels. But if you do get passed over, you can still try your luck attending local “Extended” gatherings where keynotes and sessions will be streamed live.

Other than the dates, Google isn’t giving any hints on what this year’s event will be about, which can cover Google’s growing range of influence in the tech industry. We can, however, try to make a few intelligent guesses, or at least a few wishes. Given the mid-2014 launch of Android Auto, we can presume Google will have a more refined version to show this time of year, with some car makers in tow. Android TV, too, can be a topic, but probably not as much as the in-vehicle incarnation.

Of course, we can’t forget that Project Ara is set to go on retail this year, so we are most likely to hear about that at Google I/O, though it’s probably too early to hope for a launch date announcement already. One lingering question about Google’s “experimental” devices will definitely be about the future of Google Glass, and fans will be waiting for some good news in May. For now, however, I/O can take a completely different turn, so watch this space if you’re curious about what Google is cooking up for its annual conference.
