The original NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet received the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update a few weeks ago and we thought that a new gaming tablet could be on the way. Well, there’s no new SHIELD tablet yet but the LTE models in the United States are now eligible to get the software update. This brings a number of bug fixes, additional features, and system enhancements like memory compression, repositioned navigation buttons, updated Emojis, and several stability and security improvements.
Gaming tablets aren’t regularly updated as the smartphone but NVIDIA always sees to it that their products are upgraded with the latest Android version. Some of the changes delivered by Marshmallow includes the new Vulkan API, Do Not Disturb Until Next Alarm, Double Tap Power Button to launch the SHIELD Camera app, Doze mode, power optimizations, and improved Wi-Fi connectivity even when waking from sleep. The update also delivers USB MIDI support and fixes on compass functionality, Gamepad Mapper issues, Doom 3 HDMI output issue, and with moving apps to SD card.
As with most Marshmallow upgrades, this one also brings the Android 6.0 Security Patch Level released last March. If you own a SHIELD Tablet by NVIDIA, expect to receive an Over-The-Air (OTA) notification anytime soon. Just follow the prompts to start download the mobile OS and begin installation.
