If you’ve been getting confused with the many apps that LinkedIn has launched over the past year, like Pulse, Job Search, Groups, etc, there should be a little more clarity now that they have overhauled their original flagship app. The new mobile experience should be more intuitive and “dramatically simplifies” your experience as you search for more ways to better yourself professionally, whether it’s job hunting or getting to know your industry more.

The LinkedIn app is now divided into five main areas – Your Feed, Me, My Network, Messaging, and Search. The Your Feed section is basically like the timeline on your favorite social network, but without the food porn shots and selfies. It is content from your network based on your industry, your basic job function, and the skills you listed in your profile. To better understand what you want to see here, you will be asked to choose the kind of content you’re interested in, during your initial onboarding process when you’ve updated the app.

The Me section is all about your professional brand, including your profile, who’s been looking at your profile, who is commenting on and sharing your posts, etc. Updating your profile is also now much easier. My Network is all about what’s happening in your professional network. It will offer you prompts to congratulate a contact that’s just been promoted. If you’ve synced your calendar to the app, it will also give you information about the people you’re meeting with.

Messaging is what it says it is (more informal than email, but still within a professional context) while Search has been improved and they claim it’s 300x faster. Of course, the aforementioned other apps in the network can be seamlessly launched through the app. So update your LinkedIn app now, or if you don’t have it yet, download it from the Google Play Store.
