If you’re the type of person who can memorize more than three phone numbers, then you probably will like this new feature from LINE that’s part of their latest update. Version 5.6.0 now allows you to search for people on the popular messaging app through their mobile numbers. This is convenient if you’re meeting someone for the first time, or if you’re having trouble searching for that person on LINE but you know their number anyway.
So if you meet someone for the first time, no need to ask for their LINE ID, just ask them for their digits. And if you would rather look for your friends through their mobile numbers, you now have that option too. You might think it’s more complicated to search for numbers rather than people’s names, but hey, at least you have that option. And LINE says that their purpose is to give you “the most convenient and secure services” within their power.
Speaking of security, this new feature might actually cause some random people who have too much time on their hands to just search for random numbers and then add those people. So they’ve also put in a few precautions to protect people’s privacy. Only those who have registered their phone number on LINE can access this feature. And only those who have turned on the “Allow Others To Add” options in their settings can be searchable. And LINE will also limit the number of times you can use this feature so that there will be no misuse and abuse.
The update also now makes your LINE ID part of your user profile, in case you keep forgetting what your ID is. Your Friends menu now also includes the Friend Recommendation feature. You can check if the update has rolled out to your account, but if not, just wait and keep your number memorizing talent in check.
