Compared to Samsung, LG isn’t as known for wireless charging but it’s certainly trying by rolling out Qi-enabled wireless charging battery covers. There are several wireless charing pads as well and the company included the technology in the LG V10. It was left out though in the LG G5 so we’re left waiting for when the other South Korean tech giant will finally make it a standard feature. Looks like it’s happening soon as LG is reportedly done with the development of a device that supports wireless charging.

The magnetic resonance-based wireless charging is said to be possible up to a 7cm distance. The less than 3-inches of distance is already “far’ but LG Electronics’ new technology is said to be good enough for public release. LG is expected to use it on the new Pay Smart Card and on future devices like perhaps the LG G6 and upcoming LG K and LG V phones.

Magnetic induction wireless charging is quite different from magnetic resonance wireless charging  as the latter allows charging even when device is away. Extending the distance has been a challenge but LG was able to succeed. LG even made the process more efficient by some 7 watts so you know it’s faster and more powerful.

LG is just one of the many OEMs who are working on possible wireless charging solutions. Semiconductor firms are also teaming up with these companies, hoping to deliver better wireless smartphone charging technologies. AirFuel Alliance members are hard at work to meet these goals of a more convenient way to charge the devices “wirelessly”.

Other companies working on their own wireless charging solution include Oppo, Meizu, and Huawei among others.
