LG is certainly ready to face its main rival Samsung. The other South Korean tech giant is preparing to launch the premium flagship G5 together with the X series mid-range phones, and the TONE Platinum Bluetooth headset. Apart from the LG G5, we just got word that there might be a lower-end version of it as a certain ‘LG H840’ was spotted over the weekend. We’re guessing another variant since the LG G5 is known as model H830. If this is true, then LG is following the likes of Apple and Samsung who have been launching two flagships at a time the past few years.

So will there be an LG G5 and an LG G5 Lite? Most probably according to WinFuture. The German tech website reported recently that another LG phone is listed on GFXBench. It’s said to be a midrange and not a more high-end version of the G5. The Android phone is described with the following specs: 5.3-inch screen, 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution (554 ppi), 32GB internal storage, 8MP main camera, 8MP front shooter, and an octa-core Snapdragon 625 which is one of the three new Qualcomm processors.

The chipset used is what makes it a “Lite” version since the other features are already used in most premium devices. From Snapdragon 820 to 625, LG is expected to launch the LG G5 Lite running Android 4.4 KitKat. That last detail is disappointing because the chipset can meet the Android 6.0 Marshmallow requirements.

Let’s wait and see if LG is indeed launching the G5 Lite at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week.

  1. KitKat? KITKAT?! Not even Lollipop, but 4.4? So… the phone is pretty much never going to get a software update, ever? I don’t even think the Asian/Indian markets would go for this, regardless of hardware.
