Have you always wanted a smartphone that can look directly at you and react to how you’re using it just by looking into its eyes? No? Well, apparently LG believes there’s a market for such a device, at least in South Korea. They unveiled a new line of smartphones called Aka (pronounced as “aw-kuh”) and yes, it really has eyes that can stare deep into your digital soul, and apparently with personalities to boot. Bet you wish you lived in the East Asian country or that they would bring this to the US right?

It may sound weird to describe it as a phone with eyes, but that’s basically the “appeal” of this new line of Android smartphones. And it may look creepy to have eyes peeking at you from the phone’s special case, but couple it with personalities created per color, then it may even be adorable at times. You can choose from among four different personas. Eggy is yellow and is always in love (with other smartphones we presume); Wooky has a strong personality and is the presence of all colors (we mean white); YoYo is pink and is named because its weight fluctuates from not sticking to its diet (maybe sexist and weightist?); and Soul is a music lover and is wearing all black. Oh, and apparently, all four Akas even have a back story which involves alien invasion. Don’t ask.

In terms of its specifications, it has a 5″ 720p screen, running on a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with a 1.5GB RAM and 16GB internal memory. It has an 8MP main camera and a 2MP front-facing camera, and it also comes with with a laser-assisted focus. So what are the eyes for, you may ask. It reacts to how you use your phone, like it looks down when you remove it from the case, or it rolls its eyes (like it’s dizzy, not sarcastic) when you shake it for some reason. Oh, and it also serves as a signal that you have notifications, and the color changes from red to green depending on its “emotions”.

If you live in South Korea and have a hankering for a cute smartphone, it will cost you around $455. Plus, you can actually get different color cases so that you can switch the four Aka personalities, depending on your mood. There is no news yet if LG plans to release this line outside of their native country, so don’t start dreaming yet of those digital eyes making eyes at you.
