LG is about to get the much-awaited Android Pie update. The first to receive a serving of the Pie is the LG G7 ThinQ. The rollout will happen in the first quarter of 2019 so starting tomorrow, January 1, we can start waiting for a notification. The version to be released will be stable already so you don’t have to worry about some beta issues and major bugs. If you may remember, LG announced the G7 ThinQ Android 9 Beta Program back in November, at least, in South Korea. The final release is now ready for most LG G7 ThinQ phone owners.
The LG G7 software update will soon be followed by the same Pie update for other LG smartphones such as the LG G6 and LG V40. We’re assuming in the same Q1 period.
The LG G6 Performance Update will deliver improvements on the fingerprint input screen during LG pay transactions, voice call quality, and Talkback voice prompts. Meanwhile, the V40 ThinQ Performance Update will bring the PentaShot feature on the camera, Parking assistant function and subway notification function, as well as, the Alarm/Clock app with alarm off function on holidays.
As for the G7 ThinQ Performance Update, the official Android Pie OS is ready soon so expect most Android 9 features to be added. An OTA notification will be received so watch out for it or you may manually check the settings.
Some noticeable changes include improved noise between ringing tones, Message apps can now attach large GIF files, some apps/widgets are no longer visible on the home screen, Google Account contacts now classified as Unassigned when grouped, improved app’s pauses when you delete messages, and a number of problems and bug fixes (touch is not recognized during game on horizontal screen, fingerprints are not recognized, and the problem of alarm sounds at maximum volume during MirrorLink app install.
