The LG G5 is almost officially here as it goes on sale in various markets this week and so we expected the first official ad to come out anytime now. But were you expecting a big name Hollywood actor to star in it? Well, if you did, Jason Statham probably did not figure into your top 5 guesses. And in fact, you don’t get just one Jason Statham but many Jasons. In fact, he’s the only actor you’ll see in the entire ad.
LG didn’t skimp on this one, probably because the potential for their new flagship is huge, given its unique, modular design. And so the English actor, famous for his Transporter, Fast and the Furious, and the Expendables movie franchises, is now showing off his comedic side (which we saw a glimpse of in Spy) with the ad where he plays all the characters in the 15 seconder ad, which may just be the first in a series of ads (hopefully). In fact there was a teaser video a few weeks ago hinting at who the star would be and if you were a Statham fan, then you probably recognized him from that glimpse.

The short clip shows him enjoying the various experiences you can have with the modular form of the LG G5. “I enjoyed partnering with LG and working on this commercial, so I hope that shows through in the final piece,” he said. And it really showed that he did enjoy it from what we could see in that clip. The ad is directed by Fredrik Bond, who is known in the international advertising community for several campaigns with well-known brands.
When the LG G5 is finally released in the wild, and people get to experience the various LG Friends that are available, let’s see if this kind of smartphone will fly with the market. And if people are willing to spend extra for these friends. If Jason Statham had fun, maybe we could too.
