Since we still live in a world where we are highly dependent on our mobile devices and our power banks when we’re on the go, new products that will juice up our smartphones in an inventive way are always welcome. Normally, when we power up with a power bank, it’s a bit hard to use our smartphone since it’s still wired and all. But the Joby PowerBand aims to change all that as it brings us the convenience of hands-free charging.
While it is technically not fast charging or even wireless charging, what sets the PowerBand apart is its design. You can attach it to any Android smartphone with its silicone/rubberized strap and it will charge on the go. The battery is at 3500mAh, just 100mAh shorter of the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge’s actual battery. This means you can get one full charge out of it, since most devices have a 3000mAh battery right now.
This doesn’t seem much considering a lot of power banks right now have 10,000mAh or so. But they are quite heavy and bulky. So if you feel like all you need is one charge and you want to keep your hands free relatively, then the PowerBand is something you might want to consider. That is, if you don’t mind putting on straps on your smartphone for a while and make it look like Hannibal Lecter or something.
It is compatible with most Android smartphones and will cost you $49.99. You can buy it through their online store, but no information yet if it will be available through other retailers.
