It’s been a while since we’ve had a new Jawbone product in the market, and so when news came out insinuating that the OEM was actually preparing to exit the fitness wearable market, it seemed entirely plausible. But now the company has released a statement, refuting that rumor which they say the writer has since then corrected (well, not exactly) and saying the news of them exiting the business is false and stating that they remain “wholly committed to innovating in and building great wearable products.”
The report came out last week in the Tech Insider and it said that the company has actually stopped production on its Up line of fitness trackers. Their remaining inventory has reportedly been sold to a third-party distributor. Another report in Fortune even said that they are also selling off their speaker business. At first, the company responded by saying, “No comment”. But finally, they have broken their silence and said that it is not true that they are going away anytime soon.
Jawbone further stated that there are products and technology still in the pipeline and they will be shared with the public when they are ready. While there may be truth that they have stopped production on their old/current products, that may just mean they are planning to start on the new products already and so they need to flush out their inventory.
“We manage our inventory positions according to internal business processes, and strategic product lifecycle objectives,” the statement reads further. But until we hear of a new Up product or even a new fitness wearable line, speculation about the future of the company will continue to go around the industry.
