Just yesterday we told you about HTC’s official announcement that they were delaying the official release of their VR headset called Vive until April next year. But they will also be releasing around 7,000 new developer kits at the beginning of 2016, and they will include the updated and possibly almost final consumer version and also the SteamVR controllers that should come with it. And now,(of course), some images of the Vive and controllers have leaked online.
Some redditors are saying that they got the images from the HTC website itself. The Vive headset is hugely similar to the original developer kit that they sent out previously, with the camera in the middle and markers across the front. However the controllers seem to have been improved, with the top plate replaced with a hoop and with what seems to be a better form. The HTC logo has also been added in the home and menu buttons.
HTC has not confirmed nor denied if the pictures are legit. What they did confirm a few days ago was that they were delaying the official release of the Vive because they were able to achieve a technological breakthrough that they’d like to incorporate into the headset instead of releasing a second version a few months later.
Some things that people can expect from the HTC Vive would be Room Scale user tracking powered by SteamVR by Valve and position tracked controllers that will allow users to “reach into” the virtual worlds. HTC will be accepting pre-orders by February after it will be unveiled officially at the CES in January.
