Huawei will once again prove why it’s now King of the Chinese smartphone market. The phone maker recently showed off the upcoming Huawei Kirin 950 processor in an event in Beijing. The flagship processor is expected to be found in the teased Mate 8 that is due this November 26. It’s a 16nm chipset that boasts of four lower-power Cortex A53 processors at 1.8GHz and four ARM Cortex A72 processors up to 2.53 GHz.
Kirin processors are not strangers to the mobile industry. They’re from HiSilicon which is an umbrella company of Huawei. The latest Kirin 950 is anticipated because of the impressive specs and features it will bring to future mobile devices including better voice quality for VoLTE services and music, Mali T880MP4 graphics, plus support for 5 Mode Cat. 6 LTE. It also includes a sensor i5 co-processor that works more for acceleration, magnetometer, gyroscope, sensor hub, and barometer.
HiSilicon used flip transistors and FinFET this time on the Kirin 950 to decrease power consumption by 60% and improve performance by 40%. According to Huawei, this processor can allow a 3500 mAh battery to last up to ten hours more on normal smartphone use.
Kirin isn’t as popular as a Snapdragon, Mediatek, or an Exynos but surprisingly on AnTuTu, it received a score of 82,945. Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is still on top but the Kirin 950’s score is quite impressive. We’ll see if this new chipset will make the Mate 8 the next bestseller from Huawei.
