Huawei Ascend P7 finally receives Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

Before the Android 6.0 Marshmallow rolls out for the most popular Huawei smartphones, some phones must receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update first. One of the few Huawei devices that have yet to receive the sweet Lollipop is the Huawei Ascend P7. Finally, last year’s flagship phone will get the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop before the fluffy Marshmallow is released later this year, if not, early in 2016. Those who own a Ascend P7 unit should receive the version anytime soon over the air (OTA).

You can still manually download and get the update from Huawei’s website. Just make sure you have an extra 1.26GB space to install the firmware continuously. This Android 5.1.1 version already includes the EMUI 3.1. Aside from the Ascend P7, the Ascend P8 also has the Lollipop update but Android 5.0 only. We don’t know exactly why the lower version for the latest flagship but Huawei could just be working on it and will soon have the 5.1.1 ready before the Android 6.0 is released–or it may skip the 5.1.1 and go straight to 6.0.

The Huawei Ascend P7 can be considered old now but Huawei still believes this model has a market. Perhaps, upgrading it to Marshmallow in a few months will give P7 owners some time to decide whether they should get a new Huawei or not. We’ll see.

    Well the one we have at the office is still stuck on 4.4.2 .
    Maybe it’s not the same model? It says for “model number” : “HUAWEI P7-L10” .

    And your previous version was 4.4.2 too? I can’t see the manual update on the site that they show here (plus it’s not in English).

    Yes, it had 4.4.2 previously and jumped straight to 5.1.1 with this update.
    Her phone had B609 build for a long time, then last week came B623 which prepares phone for Lollipop, still keeping it on 4.4.2 and yesterday it got B830 build with 5.1.1 and EMUI 3.1
