The people at AnTuTu must be licking their chops at all the new hardware using their benchmarking app these days, first of which is the new Huawei Ascend Mate 8. This is the China-based company’s newest flagship, and we get a first peek at what the specs could look like, as a unit was tested with the AnTuTu app and the records sent to their databases.
We’re looking at a 6-inch FullHD (1080p) display on the Huawei Ascend Mate 8, which brings the device to phablet territory. This new phone will sport the new in-house chipset from Huawei – the monster Kirin 950 processor. Apparently, there will be two variants of the phone – one with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage, and a monster with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. This is supported by the top-of-the-line Mali-T880 graphics chip and a 16MP/8MP camera combo.
We are assuming that it is the higher spec’d version that reached 79,000 points on the AnTuTu app. To give you a bit of perspective, the current king of the hill is the Meizu Pro 5, sporting an Exynos 7420 chip that garnered 76,800 points. The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is a far second at around 72,000 AnTuTu points. The results for the Huawei Ascend Mate 8 will leave all of these in the dust.
The more exciting part is that Huawei is just about primed to launch this beast in time for the 2015 holiday season, with the unveiling rumored to be just a week away. Let’s hope this phone makes it outside China and into the international market.
