If you think of HTC and its flagship devices, you probably would have to search high and low for something slim and sexy. That is until today, when China’s TENAA (FCC equivalent) certified an HTC smartphone coded as the HTC WF5w – probably the slimmest HTC device at 7.49mm. Let’s look at what we can learn about this previously unannounced device.

HTC is not known for running the “slimmest device” race – the record currently held by a China-made phone at just over 4mm. But the Taiwan-based manufacturer has a number of phones under 8mm, probably the barrier for any device to be called slim. The HTC One E9+, for instance, is measured at 7.54mm. Today, that record is now officially beaten by the HTC WF5w.

There isn’t too much in the way of marketing information for this phone yet. We do know that it will be running Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out of the box, with a 5.5-inch HD (720p) display, and seems to have the dual front-facing speakers HTC likes. It will be powered by an octa-core 1.5 GHz processor, supported by 2GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage. Plus it features 13MP cameras on the front and back.

All in all, it looks like a well-specced mid-tier phone, with a slim form factor to boot. TENAA’s certification means that this phone will be near launch, and we can probably know more about it soon. The TD-LTE specification could mean it will be out with China Mobile, but let’s hope that it gets released internationally, maybe under the Desire line?
