HTC seemed to have been starting a digital tradition that when they launch their flagship, they then release a slightly lesser mid-level version of it. We saw it with the One M8 and the One E8 that had lesser specs but also a lesser price. We thought that’s what we should expect when they announced the new flagship, the HTC One M9 at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress. A One E9 will probably come along eventually. But leaks and rumors seem to indicate it will not just be a rip-off of the One M9.
The One M9 has a 5-inch screen,, so it stands to follow that the E9 will be more or less the same. But rumors are saying that it will actually have a bigger 5.5-inch screen with a 2660 x 1440 display. The leaked image also shows that instead of their usual curved image, this actually looks flat enough so that there’s a little budge just for the camera.
The inside of the supposed One E9 doesn’t look too shabby as well. It is said that it will be running on a 2Hz processor (brand still unknown) and will have a pretty good 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal disk space which can be expanded by adding a micro SD card to your smartphone. In terms of its camera, it will reportedly have a whopping 20-megapixel main camera and a lowly but still decent 4MP UltraPixel camera or even a 13-megapixel shooter.
All this is pointing to the fact that either HTC is improving their mid-level products to not just become the “ugly stepsister anymore” or the One E9 is not meant to be the lower end version of the HTC One M9, but rather a smartphone that yo can be actually proud to call your own.
