We weren’t expecting any big shebang since we knew that the HTC 10 launch was just an online event. But we still were expecting a sort of official unveiling thing with a bit of sparkle and hype. Unfortunately (or maybe even fortunately), what we had was a straightforward official announcement through a short film. Okay, not exactly a short film but the 10 minute video sure felt like it.
Through the video, we got to see all the details of the new flagship as presented by HTC’s Nigel Newby-House, their AVP of Product Planning. It shows an in-depth look at both the hardware and software of the HTC 10, including its minimalistic design and the software improvements from the previous flagship. There are also testimonials from selected HTC fans from Taipei, San Francisco, New York City, and London who got to see the smartphone ahead of everyone else.
Most of the leaked details about the HTC 10 proved to be true. It had a 5.2-inch Quad HD Super LCD 5 display and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset (at least for the US market). It has 4GB RAM and either 32GB or 64GB internal storage options that can be expanded to up to 2TB microSD. It has a 12MP UltraPixel 2 rear camera with a bunch of other goodies like 1.55um pixels and f/1.8 aperture, OIS, laser autofocus, RAW, 4K video recording, Pro camera mode, hyperlapse. The selfie or front-facing camera has 5MP and ultra wide lens.
The HTC 10 also has dual non-stereo Boom Sound speakers, a 3,000mAH battery, fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C, and the HTC Sense 8 UI on top of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow that comes out of the box. The flagship device will be available on Verizon and T-Mobile with a launch price of $699. You can already pre-order your device and shipping will start in May.
