HP announced the Slate 7 tablet back in February. They were pretty forthcoming in terms of details at the time and offered everything from specs to pricing and even a rough idea of when the tablet will begin shipping. For those who may have missed that earlier news, the HP Slate 7 is expected in April and will arrive priced at $169. The good news today, it looks like that April release is now one step closer to becoming a reality.
Simply put, that means the Slate 7 tablet has recently stopped by for a visit with the FCC. Granted this does not mean we now have a specific release date, but it does remove one possibility for a delay of that release. We now wait for HP to offer something specific in terms of a date. Given we had a vast majority of the details, this FCC filing did not reveal all that much that wasn’t already known.
The few goodies that were included in the filing were some images — both internal and external as well as the user manual. Perhaps more important for those considering a purchase are the specs. The Slate 7 is launching with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and will be sporting a 7-inch (1024 x 600) display, dual-core 1.6GHz Cortex A9 processor and 8GB of internal storage.
Other goodies will include a VGA quality front-facing camera, 3 megapixel rear-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, a microSD card slot and a thickness of just 10.7mm. Putting the hardware specs aside, we also spent a bit of hands-on time with the Slate 7 following that February announcement.
