Racing games have come a long, long way. From the golden age of arcade games to the mind-blowing, face-melting graphics of next gen consoles today, that has been quite a journey for car racing game fans. You almost learn to always expect the great graphics in consoles today, but sometimes nostalgia hits are really, really nice – especially when done correctly. Horizon Chase is one of those done correctly.
Horizon Chase is a car racing game for smartphones and mobile platforms, but arcade gaming blood runs through the game’s core. The game is simple enough, but it brings a twist to the classic 16-bit arcade graphics we’ve all grown up with. The visuals in this game are no doubt better looking than what you had on arcade racing games before, the developers went with smooth polygonal aesthetics, but colored it with decidedly retro color schemes – and it’s not a bad thing at all.
The game allows users to race the world in 32 different cities, on 78 different tracks. The retro feel is all throughout the game, although some modern elements like upgrading car parts have made it into the gameplay. But all in all, this is still a very pretty retro racing game.
Android gamers have a treat, they can try 5 tracks of the game for free before deciding if they want to buy the whole game for USD$2.99. There’s support for Bluetooth controllers, if that’s the way you roll – but there’s no support for multiplayer games. Pick it up at the link below if you want to try it out.
