Huawei may be having problems with the US government and consequently, the US market, but that doesn’t mean they’re slowing down anytime soon in other territories. Its sub-brand Honor has now officially launched a new device, the Honor 7s after it was spotted on TENAA earlier this month. With the marketing tagline, “View more, hear clearer”, the device is aimed at those who are looking for entry-level devices that can still bring you good quality when listening to music or watching videos or browsing through a bigger screen. Here are the things you need to know about the new smartphone.

The 5.45-inch screen with the 1440×720 resolution may not be as big as compared to Samsung’s flagship devices but in light of other entry-level and even mid-tier phones, the 18:9 golden design and the 73% screen gives you better screen real estate. It may even be an advantage for those who prefer to have smaller phones and yet bigger screens. It also has a larger receiver volume so that you will be able to listen to it clearly, whether you’re talking to someone or listening to something, even when in a noisy environment (hence the tagline).

Battery-wise, it has a 3020mAh capacity, which is pretty big for a device of this quality. It also uses the smart battery management 6.0 of Honor which has “front smart power save and back ground power management”. The Honor 7s has a 2GB RAM and a 16GB internal storage which is nothing remarkable, even if you can expand it to 256GB through a microSD card and its dual SIM plus micro expansion slot. It runs on Android 8.1 already so you can expect it to be upgraded to Android 9 when it eventually rolls out.

Camera-wise, which is important even for those buying entry level devices, it has a 13MP main camera with PDAF (phase detection auto focus) which should let you capture “sharp and crisp photos”. For the selfie camera, also an important factor, you get a 5MP sensor and a smart LED selfie light that should give you better photos even in low light situations. The intelligent light adjustment is also a plus factor.

Are you already sold on the Honor 7s? Well unfortunately (and fortunately if you live in that country), it’s currently available in Pakistan only. And while it’s on the Honor website already, there’s no indication as to when it will be available in other markets. It’s priced around $125 in Pakistan, so that should be the price range in other markets as well.
