In their quest to become the best map and location app in the market, HERE has been adding features left and right in order to give users what they want, what they need, and even what they didn’t think they needed. But even though their current app is pretty neat already, they want to accelerate the improvement process by releasing a public beta program so those interested in testing out new features can do so and give feedback immediately.
The public beta program will help the developers identify issues and bugs from a wider range of Android users and devices and make the updates even faster. The first feature to be tested out on this program is the “contextual menu” feature which brings up a shortcut menu when you long press anywhere on the map. The menu will include location information, the ability to share the location on any of your social networks or apps, link to get the directions to the location, and the link to start the turn-by-turn navigation.
Joining the beta testing program is quite easy. You have to join the HERE Beta program Google group. Then you visit the link to the beta version of the app on Google Play Store from your mobile device then Install or Update. It will replace your regular HERE app, if you’ve already previously installed it. You can use the beta version like you did your previous one.
Of course since it will be in beta, it will be less stable, and that is the point of the testing process, to let developers know what is working and what isn’t. If you feel like you’d rather use the regular version and not participate in the beta program, you can leave anytime you want and download the regular version from the Google Play Store.
