It’s the middle of April already and guess what we have for you. That’s right – games, games and more games. There’s thousands of them to choose from via the Play Store, but allow us to highlight a few so you have options right off the bat. What? “Thank you Android Community for being so thoughtful”? Oh that’s quite alright. This is what we do, awesome as we are.
Aurora: Quarantine

We’d like to describe the gameplay to this frustratingly difficult puzzle game as “roll the marble, solve some puzzles.” But that would be doing discredit to the developers of Aurora: Quarantine who actually thought of a complicated storyline so you can enjoy your puzzles with a good story to go with it. Inspired by such marble rolling classics, this game puts you in control of a robot marble, and your mission is to roll through a town that has recently been attacked using weapons of mass destruction. All the inhabitants are dead and everyone that tries to enter the area dies from the toxic nanoparticles. There is a further backstory, but we won’t spoil it for you. The thing is, puzzle games don’t become great because they’re easy to beat – they work because they make you crazy in trying to solve them. If you’re up for it, check out the link below, download the game for a measly USD$1.47 for a limited time only.

Toby: The Secret Mine

There’s nothing more fun than a great platformer to while away the time. Platforming games tend to have a good mix of simple gameplay, puzzle elements, and the right amount of action to engage gamers like you. This new game, Toby: The Secret Mine, puts you in a world of silhouettes and shadows. That’s not to say that the developers were lazy with the artwork – in fact the game looks beautiful. The story is that a small village is suddenly threatened when someone (or something?) starts kidnapping its residents. Rescuers have not come back, so enter Little Toby, to save the day. Players will journey with the kid’s character deep into the forest where you need to get past dangerous situations and solve challenging puzzles. The game is great, and its premium price of USD$4.99 reflects the quality of the game.

LEGO Star Wars Force Builder

This one we’re recommending because it’s geeky in the way that we like. The hype for Star Wars: The Force Awakens may have already died down, but anything with the LEGO mark on it seems to be cool enough to try. This app is a simple one – LEGO Star Wars Force builder allows you to build starships and X-wing fighters from the Star Wars universe. You use your creativity and design your own spaceships, choose your pilots and test your ships in a “test tunnel”. The object is to rise up the ranks as a Jedi builder with more complicated ships and rarer parts and elements. If geeking out to all things Star Wars appeals to you, go ahead and check this app out. It’s free to download, without any IAPs it seems.

Disney Crossy Road

If you know your Android viral game phenomena, you will know that the game “Crossy Road” came from the route of intensely difficult and frustrating skill games which all began from a game called Flappy Bird. The rest is history, we suppose. Crossy Road in itself was frustrating, so there might be a measure of fun when you put in your well-known Disney characters in the mix. You get Disney Crossy Road – the same challenging and frustrating game, only with Disney characters – yay!

Gunbird II

Gunbird II was definitely one of the classic space shooting top-to-bottom scrolling games from CAPCOM of yesteryear. The game was even ported to Sega Dreamcast because of its popularity, and now it’s making its debut on Android. The gameplay is simple enough, think Galaga or any other space shooter, only this time you get to pick pilots and characters with their own special abilities. Shoot the baddies down, go for the top score. Pretty simple, but it does bring a lot of memories with it. Try the game for free at the link below.
