GoPro, the popular action camera, has finally releases an Android app that works with its cameras. An iOS app has been available for the GoPro for quite some time, but GoPro is finally bringing one to Android. This allows users to control their GoPro cameras from their Android devices, which helps them keep the action going without removing the camera from whatever part of their body its attached to.
GoPro took to Twitter to announce the launch of the new app. GoPro announced that the app offers “full control of camera settings and remote viewfinder/preview.” You can also view daily highlight clips, and change to different modes right from the app.
There are some limitations to the app, that may keep many GoPro and Android users out in the cold. First, the only model of the camera’s currently supported by the app is the Hero2. Support for the new Hero3 is coming soon, but the original Hero HD is not supported. Hero2 users will also need to own a GoPro WiFi BacPac to use the remote functionality. The app only supports devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
If you’re still recording your extreme action using an original GoPro, now might be the best time to upgrade. With the Hero3 coming soon, you should be able to grab a Hero2 for relatively cheap. The app is available for free on Google Play.
It works fine with Android 2.2 and up …
