It took them two years to update their Play support page to reflect the process, but Google finally has “acknowledged” that it has a 48-hour window for app and in-app purchases. An article published in an online news site two years ago showed that aside from the official 15-minute window, there are actually multiple refund windows that customers can use if they changed their mind about the purchase they made. If it goes beyond the period, they point you towards contacting the app developer.

Whereas before, users were only informed that you can get a refund for an app or in-app purchase within 15 minutes of the transaction, the Google Play support page now states that within 48 hours, you can submit a refund request online and they will give you a decision in 15 minutes. What they don’t really say is that most likely, regardless of the reason, you will get that refund. To acknowledge that this process is automated would have most likely gotten abused by those who wanted to get a “free” 48 hours to use the app or play the game.

Now if you legitimately need a refund and you’ve gone beyond the 48 hours, Google points you to the developer where you can still ask them to grant you the request. You probably will not get a response from most of these developers. But what’s not written in the support page is that you can still submit that refund request to Google, and they might still grant it.

But in our experience, the best way would be to contact the developer because there is no way they will reject you if you have a valid reason that is. Or you could just be careful when making app purchases at the Google Play Store so you won’t have this problem eventually.
