There are already a lot of mobile games available for our Android devices, both from big time game developers and indie ones, but as everything digital continues to evolve at a rapid pace, there will always be room for more. Google recognizes the amount of talent that is out there in the indie games world and so this coming September, they will be holding an Indie Games Festival in San Francisco, to discover the best games out there and also allow selected gamers to experience the games first hand.
The event is also to “celebrate and showcase the passion and innovation of indie game developers” and at the same time giving them a chance to compete for the attention of what will probably be hardcore gamers who will be going to the event (which will have free admission). They will also be able to increase their network as companies and brands and other gaming studios will also be there. The indie game developers will get a chance to win prizes like Tango devices, tickets to next year’s Google I/O, and of course Google ad campaign support for their games.
Google is already accepting submissions and the deadline for entries will be on August 14. Only developers with 15 or less full time staff are eligible to submit their entries. Their games should be published on or after January 1, 2016 or it should be published by December 31, 2016. There are of course other rules which you can see in this link.
Since this is the year of virtual reality and augmented reality, Google is encouraging submissions that use the Google VR SDK and the Tango Tablet Development Kit. The indie games that will be featured at the festival, happening September 24, will be announced by the end of August.
