The Google Play Indie Games Festival has just finished and several game developers are going home happy. Three games were chosen as the winners, as judged by Google and the festival goers who tested out the games: bit bit blocks, Numbo Jumbo, and Orbit – Playing with Gravity. More than 200 entries were submitted but only 30 were chosen to be showcased and tested out amongst those who attended the event. There aren’t any numbers yet as to how many actually went to the festival, but initial reports say it was pretty successful.
The three games that won all look pretty minimalistic, so I guess we know what the judges and players were going for. bit bit blocks is a puzzle game that you can play on your own or play against your friends but only on a single screen. Meanwhile, Numbo Jumbo is a mobile puzzle number game where you group numbers that add together, so if you’re bad at simple mental math, stay away. Lastly, Orbit lets you launch planets by flicking them into orbit around blackholes. You can also create your own universes and control time and other elements as well.
As for the four nominees or finalists that didn’t win, you have the Oliver Twist-like Antihero, the multiplayer game with jetpack combat Armajet, 2D puzzle platformer Norman’s Night In: The Cave, and the twin sisters lost in different dimensions atmospheric puzzler Parallyzed. There were 30 exhibiting games in total, as they were the “most fun and engaging’ as chosen by Google among the 200 submitted indie games.
You’ll be able to play most of the games now on Google Play Store, but those that aren’t yet will probably soon be available as well. Congratulations to all the winners, nominees, and finalists, and thank you for adding even more to our list of games we should be playing.
