Good news for Canadian Android users today, as Google has announced their Google Play Gift Cards are now available north of Michigan. In a simple Google+ posting, The Play Store announced the gift cards will be available in denominations of $15, $25, and $50.
Those retailers who will be getting the cards are:
- 7-11
- Future Shop
- Shoppers Drug Mart
- Mac’s
- Target
- Pharmaprix
- Best Buy
- Couche-Tard
- Circle K
- Walmart
For the uninitiated, Play Gift Cards work just like any other gift card, only they add a balance to your Google Wallet account. There is a redemption code on the back of the card, which needs to be entered online at the Play Store, or via your Android device.
To redeem on the Play Store, simply select redeem from the left side of the screen (right under ‘Wishlist’), and enter the code when prompted. If you’re having issues finding your code, there is a quick primer letting you know where it’s located. Redeeming on your Android device is similarly easy: from the Play Store app, just activate the menu on the top right of the device, and click “redeem”. It’s the same process!
If you’re interested in grabbing a few Play Gift Cards, give it a few days. While they’re available to use in Canada, we’re not confident they’ve reached all stores yet. Sometimes those kiosks are stocked by a third party, and the store may not even have them in stock.
