When you use Google Maps for driving, walking, or biking directions, you can get a step-by-step navigation to ensure that you actually won’t get lost. But when you’re commuting or in transit, you only get the basic directions, and you may actually sometimes miss your stop. Now the latest update for one of Google’s most useful apps brings the same kind of detailed navigation that you can get in the other modes, this time for those who take the bus or train.
We actually talked about this new feature a few days ago, but now Google has officially rolled out the update so users will get it anytime now. What it basically does is give you real-time notifications and live guidance so that you will never miss a stop, even as you’re watching a video or listening to music, or browsing the web on your smartphone. The details will show up in the app itself or as notifications, as well as the locked screen of your device. It not only offers detailed directions but keeps track of your “progress” as well.
To use this new feature (after updating your app of course), just go and type a destination, choose the transit directions option, select your preferred route (if there are options), and then press Start. You will get departure times, estimated times of arrival, and notifications that will tell you to get off that bus or train or transfer to another one to continue your route.
The update is already rolling out to all Google Maps users. Check your Google Play page to see if it’s already available for your account.
