If you have a WiFi router at home, chances are you’re hiding it in plain sight either because it doesn’t look that great or it will interfere with the decor of your room. And if ever it acts up, you’d have to call in a “specialist” since the router is probably too complicated (unless you’re an expert of course). Google is aiming to change all that when they introduced this summer the OnHub router. Now they’re back with a newer model, this time created by Asus.
The first member of the OnHub family was from TP-Link and it received pretty good reviews from users. Now, the Asus OnHub comes with the same powers as the previous model: it brings you faster WiFi connection (of course dependent on your provider too), an easy way of setting it up, and better user management by using the Google On app, which can be installed on your Android device. A new feature that it brings is Wave Control which lets you speed up the WiFi speed for a particular device all by waving your hand over the hub. Now you can do some waving mojo and get better Internet in the process.
Google is also updating the OnHub software for the first time since launch. This includes a new smart antenna algorithm which will significantly boost its performance since it will select the best combination of antennas based on your device’s location and orientation. The hub will update when your network is “quiet” so that it won’t interrupt your current connections.
Pre-orders for the Asus OnHub will start this week, but only on selected retailers and available only in the US for now. The SRP is $219.99.
