If Microsoft has the Garage Project, Google has its own Google Creative Lab that churns out cool apps for Android. Not that Google still needs to make more many and get more people to like Android, but it can be fun for developers to have another outlet to explore and execute their more creative side. After the Alphabet initiative, Google through the lab has just released three apps that take advantage of a mobile device’s sensors and camera in new and unique ways: Tunnel Vision, Landmarker, and Lip Swap.
Tunnel Vision
Tunnel Vision is a fun but weird app that lets you distort your surroundings. The transformative filters can be panned or pinched to your heart’s content. It works on videos and makes use of your GPS for the phone to detect movements and shakes. Based on the sample images, I know this one will make me dizzy. It’s not really a relevant app but for the artsy ones, it’s a fun way to make cool and creative videos you can share on the “cooler” social networks like Tumblr and Instagram.
Lip Swap
Bring you own face to any image to create funny videos that are entertaining. Who knows, your work might go viral or shared and viewed by millions. You know, those kind of videos that are senseless yet played on loop until they get old.
Landmarker
The Landmarker seems like the more serious app. It’s interesting because it’s like an augmented reality software that let’s you explore your surroundings. It shows other landmarks, or interesting stuff in a certain location. Just point the phone in one direction and related information will be displayed. App doesn’t really use the camera and doesn’t base data on the images but rather on the location of the phone.
