At the beginning of the year, we always find time to set our goals that we want to achieve in the next 12 months. Read more. Exercise three times a week. Take up an online class. But by this time, you probably haven’t made much progress on any of those plans because of one reason or another. Google Calendar wants to help you be that better person you’re trying to be by giving you the Goals feature and finding time in your busy schedule to actually reach them.

Adding Goals and digitally scheduling the time to do them is half the battle. Google wants to make at least that part easy for you. Just set a goal and then answer several questions that can help Google Calendar figure out what you want to do. Questions may include “How often?” and “What’s the best time for you?” It will then scour through your schedule and figure out where to fit in that Goal. Of course it’s not that rigid, although of course if you’re really serious about getting it done then you’d strictly follow the schedule that Google Calendar sets out for you.

But in case something really important comes up and you input a schedule that’s in conflict with a Goal activity, then it will automatically reschedule it to a better time and day. In case you realize that you want to set aside or at least defer a Goal that you set, don’t worry, Google Calendar won’t judge you. It will just make time for it later when you already feel like setting a goal again. The efficiency of this app feature will also depend on how many times you use it as it will learn your habits (including deferring habits) and schedule your life better.

You can update your Google Calendar and add your first Goal and see how it will help you reach that specific goal. If you don’t have the app yet, just download it for free from the Google Play Store.
