If you’re working for a company that deals with sensitive information or if you just want to be careful that no unauthorized eyes will be able to access your accounts (as well should be), then the 2-step verification process is a necessary thing that we need to have, even though it might take a little more of your time. If you’re dealing with Google Apps, you now have another option to use in that process and that is to approve a Google prompt that will pop up on your screen every time you’d have to log in.
Previously, you only had two things that you can do for the verification process: you tap a security key or passcode or you enter a verification code that will be sent to your phone. You now have a third option and that is to approve a prompt from Google that will show up on your phone. The screen will ask you if you’re trying to sign in from a specific place and what kind of device you’re using. You can then choose No and you will be denied sign in (if it’s not you signing in of course) or yes and you’ll be signed in afterwards.
There are still some limitations for now though. You can’t use both Security Keys and the Google prompt for the 2-step process, so you’d have to choose either of them and then the verification code. You would also need to be connected to the Internet if you choose the prompt. To be able to use the new feature, you’d have to update your Google Play Services to the latest version.
You can choose which two things you’d like for your 2-step verification process if you go to the My Account section and choose this path: Sign-in & Security > Signing in to Google > 2-Step Verification. Google said that they will be updating the Help Center soon with detailed instructions on how to use the prompt.
