While a lot of people prefer chatting using emoticons, there is also a growing number of people who have conversations without words but using various GIFs. A lot of these chats happen on Facebook Messenger because it supports GIPHY which probably has the largest database of GIFs right now. However, the GIPHY Android app seems tied to Messenger so it was kind of limited. That is, until now, with the latest update which frees up the app so you can share GIFs from it on other apps.

Yes, finally, the GIPHY app is free from Messenger, although of course you can still send all these weird and cute and funny GIFs to whoever you’re chatting with in that app. But now the update also allows you to share all these crazy GIFs to other social networking and messaging apps. So instead of just typing out LOL or Ugh in your chat, you can actually look for a Disney character falling from the chair laughing or a Mean Girl doing an eye roll and they should probably get the message.

The GIPHY Android app gives you access to all the GIFs that have been uploaded into their system as well as the GIFs from all around the internet. Searching for these images is pretty easy, and it’s based on the hashtags that the creator used to label them. But you can also browse through all the other images that you can see, and you’ll probably end up in a blackhole of never-ending GIFs.

While it says you can share to any app, there are still some incompatible ones that don’t fully support GIFs. You’ll end up sharing just the URL, which kind of defeats the purpose. But anyway, there are still a lot of apps that do support it so update your GIPHY app now through the Google Play Store.
