If you’re tired of being laughed at by your friends for your hilarious misheard (and mis-sung) lyrics or if you want to figure out what the singer of your favorite band is actually mumbling about in their favorite song, then you’d want to update your Genius song lyrics app immediately. The app now has APIs that will allow it to give you live lyrics while you’re listening to a song in whatever music app you’re listening to.
Genius came to Android devices just last August, but it has already made users’ lives more fun as they could just browse through the app and see the lyrics of the songs they’re looking for, and even get a bit of information about them, kind of like a Wikipedia for songs. But they’re doing you one better with this new update as you can now view the lyrics of whatever song you’re listening to, whether it’s on Spotify, Google Play Music, Pandora, etc.
So for example you’re listening to Hotline Bling on Spotify and you actually want to sing along for some reason, a notification will appear on top of your app telling you to tap on it if you want to go to Genius and read (or sing to) the lyrics while still continuing to listen to the song on your streaming app. For now, edits or additions to annotations on the Genius app aren’t allowed, but it will only be some time until this will probably be added.
If you don’t like the lyrics notification to be activated, you can disable it on the Genius’ app settings. If you don’t have Genius yet, you can download it on the Google Play Store for free. If you have it already, you can update it now to get your lyrics while listening to your songs.
