Galaxy S6 to reportedly have dual sim in China, Russia, Philippines

We’re still a few weeks away from the official release of Samsung’s newest flagship the Galaxy S6, but already, rumors of a dual SIM version have been flooding tech sites these past days. A Chinese website has reportedly gotten hold of this variant, ahead of the March 31 press conference, and if the pictures are to be believed, this Galaxy S6 definitely shows a dual sim tray. Other news sites have also said Russia and the Philippines will also have this version of the flagship.

If these rumors and images are true, then this will be the first time that a Samsung flagship will get a dual-SIM variant, although a lot of the Korean OEM’s lower variants have always had the ability to house two different carriers at the same time. From what we could glean from this Chinese site, the SM-G9200 is the official model name of the Galaxy S6 and that it will be carried by Netcom. And more importantly, their communication agency “confirmed” that the device to be released there will indeed be dual sim models.

Meanwhile, just a few days ago, a Russian online retailer reportedly listed a Galaxy S6 Duos on their site, which they say is the dual-sim variant of the smartphone and that it will have a 64GB internal storage. Another country that has also reported that they will be getting the same model is the Philippines, where dual-SIM smartphones comprise a huge part of the entry-level market. It will reportedly have two nano SIM card slots, but only one of them will be able to support LTE.

We still have to wait a few more days (in the case of China) or a few more weeks until we find out if any of these reports are actually true. But launching this variant in China might be part of their attempt to capture (or recapture) a market that is being dominated by brands like Xiaomi and Lenovo.
