If you’re a Samsung fan, you’re probably still aware that one of their biggest weaknesses is their less than stellar “fast” charging technology. While their competitors have moved on to better and faster things, they have somehow still stuck to the older Quick Charge 2.0 technology and they don’t even supply the maximum power at that level. But if rumors are to be believed, then the upcoming Galaxy S10, expected to be announced early next year, will bring a truly faster charging solution and all we can say is it’s about time.

Quick Charge technology is already on its 4th generation and yet Samsung is still using version 2.0. And even that is not maximized as real Quick Charge 2.0 can go up to 18W but Samsung phones charge only up to 15 watts. Quick Charge 4.0+ meanwhile offers up to 27 watts of charging power but a lot of the Chinese brands like Huawei and Oppo actually offer custom solutions.

Tipster Ice Universe tweeted out that the 15W charging of Samsung “will become history” and that they are already working on a faster solution for their upcoming devices. Now whether they will be using the Quick Charge specs or create something similar to what Huawei has been offering, that is still the question. The 4,000 mAh battery of the P20 Pro can charge up to 80% in 45 minutes. If we were Samsung, we would want to offer something similar or maybe even better.

This is especially important if the other rumor about the Galaxy S10 is true, that they will be bringing reverse wireless charging. This means that you can use the phone to wireless charge your other device. Samsung is expected to offer a bigger battery capacity to be able to make that feature useful and so we also expect that they will be bringing an improved fast charging technology.

All will be revealed hopefully over the next few months as the Galaxy S10 is expected to be announced during the Mobile World Congress. Since this is also the 10th anniversary of the Galaxy S series, then we expect Samsung to make a big splash.
