The Firefox app for Android has long been a useful mobile web browser for those who are always on-the-go. We’ve seen different versions already and Mozilla will only continue to update the app as long as the Android platform continues to evolve (aside from the fact that every app needs regular updating to remain relevant). The newest update to Firefox for Android now includes a new Firefox Hello Beta functionality and new ways to personalize a Firefox Account.
Providing access to Firefox Sync and similar services is Firefox Accounts. It allows browsing of important data such as open tabs, history, passwords, and bookmarks across devices so you can easily access information whether on mobile or on your desktop. With this update, you can now edit and personalize a Firefox Account by uploading a photo in Firefox for Mac, Windows, Android and Linux.
New features of the Firefox Browser by Mozilla include the following:
• Quickly search from the search panel with different search providers
• Swipe-to-close tabs on tablets
• Overlay to manually search and copy and paste login credentials from login manager especially when not auto-filled
• More efficient bookmark management with duplicate bookmark detection
• Open Android applications from a web page via Intent URIs
• Locale added: Croatian (hr)
• Enhanced box-shadow rendering performance
With the updated Firefox for Android, you’ll notice that the User Agent now includes Android version and there’s support for running animations of ‘transform’ and ‘opacity’ on the compositor thread, as well as, updates to image decoding process have been made.
As with most app updates, various bugs and errors have been fixed especially on those security fixes and support for playing MP3 files. On the design and coding part, devs might notice the updates to HTML5. Changes include enabling by default the ‘MessageChannel‘ and ‘MessagePort’ API and ‘CSS Font Loading API’, additional support for the ‘transform-origin’ property on SVG elements and the Copy/Cut Web content from JavaScript to the OS clipboard with ‘document.execCommand(“cut”/”copy”)‘.
