Facebook is still alive. Whether you like it or not, it still is the most popular social network today. The company has acquired a number of big brands like Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus VR. I don’t think Mark Zuckerberg is retiring anytime soon as he’s got many plans for Facebook including this virtual digital assistant on Facebook Messenger.
Nothing has been formally announced yet but Facebook devs are believed to be adding Moneypenny to the instant messaging app. This detail came from The Information who reported that the digital assistant will help people to look for products and services and in actually buying them. Moneypenny is Facebook’s version of Siri, Cortana, and Google Now. If you don’t know where the name Moneypenny came from, just watch the 2012 James Bond film “Skyfall”.
We’re not certain about the official name because it’s a bit long. It could just be a code name as anything can happen and Facebook may change its mind about what to call it. There’s no mention on how Moneypenny will do the job either but remember that last month, Facebook Messenger secure P2P payments rolled out all over the US. Sending money via Facebook is made easier and more convenient for those who prefer business transactions through the social network.
There’s also a possibility that Moneypenny could just be a text or chat assistant. While this is a promising feature or product, such startups usually have command a charge so we don’t know how Facebook is going to use Moneypenny or if it will ever charge each user for using the service.
