A lot of people have already been enjoying the free audio and video calls that you can make through the Facebook Messenger app. But it looks like they really want to make this feature up front and center as they are testing out a new layout which will feature a call tab for the Messenger. If you don’t see it on your app, that just means you’re not part of the random test group that they have chosen.
A lot of the tech brands have test runs for features before they either trash it or make it a full feature through an update. And Messenger has had its fair share of experiments, either with its layout and design or the features you might (or might not) enjoy when it goes live. And the latest one that some users have spotted is a call tab that is right there beside the recent, groups, and people buttons. The write button has been replaced by the call tab, which means they want more users to use the call feature, for one reason or another.
For the regular users, the Make Call option is still under the Floating Action Button in the bottom left of your messenger. Having it “hidden” there may contribute sometimes to people not knowing you can actually make calls or some may be too lazy to actually push a few extra buttons to make that call. Or maybe people just don’t want to use the call function of the Messenger.
But that is the purpose of this test, to see if putting the call button out there where people can see it will make a difference to how often people use it or if it won’t have an impact at all. Let’s see if we’ll get the call tab in the next Facebook Messenger update.
