When you’re chatting with someone on the Messenger app by Facebook, there are times when you’d like to show them what you’re seeing at that very moment. You do have video calling, but if you want to have a different way of communicating in both video and chat, then you may want to try out their new feature rolling out to Android devices. Instant Video lets you take and share a live video of yourself or the thing you’re looking at and share it with the person you’re chatting with at that moment.

So whether you’re trying to get your friend to pick what to order from the menu or to help you pick out the right shoes when you’re shopping, you’ll now be able to show them in real time through Instant Video. You have to make sure first that both of your Messenger apps are updated. While you’re on the Messenger chat, you can tap on the video icon on the upper right corner and it will start taking your live video and sharing it with your friend. The sound is automatically turned off but you can turn on the sound if you want to.

The video is floating over your chat box and if your friend wants to respond, they can take a video of themselves as well. Since a lot of people have a video camera and internet connection on their mobile device, this seems a pretty good alternative to actual video calling, if that’s not your thing.

This feature is rolling out to Android users over the next few days. You can check if your account already has it by updating your Messenger app to the latest version.
