It’s taken them a while to bring “diversity” into the sport, or at least into the mobile game, but finally women are featuring in the latest update of the EA Sports UFC mobile game for Android devices. The most popular and arguably best women’s fighter in the world Ronda Rousey is not only in the game itself, but is also now the cover athlete and the game icon, cementing her status as the current poster child for the mixed martial arts sport.
Rousey has been making waves not only in the sport but on social media as well, and pundits say that no one can even come close to beating her. In fact, her shortest fight can fit into an Instagram post since it lasted only 14 seconds. So it’s only fitting that when EA Sports was looking for a new game icon (after previous one, Jon Jones, has been allegedly involved in a felony car crash), she was top of mind for the developers. Well, we don’t know if she was top, but we do know she eventually prevailed.
But not only that, it’s also the first time that the mobile version has brought the women’s bantamweight division into the game, since the console has had them for a while. Ronda and six other women fighters are now playable in the game, which also boasts of enhanced visuals in this latest update. The download size has also been reduced, while behind-the-scenes improvements have also been made.
If you’re an MMA fan and haven’t tried playing this game yet, you can download EA Sports UFC from the Google Play Store for free. There are also in-app purchases available.
