If you’re highly dependent on Dropbox for all your productivity needs, you might take note of the service’s latest update as it brings a lot of new features and improvements. This includes the ability scan documents through the app, create Microsoft Office documents on the go within the Dropbox app, adding comments to specific parts of the file for better collaboration, plus some changes also to the desktop app of the cloud service. However, Android users will have to wait a little longer to enjoy all these new features.
But while the changes are rolling out to iOS apps and the desktop version, it still won’t hurt to know what we’ll expect in hopefully just a few weeks. Dropbox now has document scanning so you can capture whiteboards, receipts, sketches, and save them directly to your cloud. You can even search within the scans if there are words in the document. You will also now be able to create Microsoft Office documents from within the Dropbox app. Just click the plus button then choose the create or upload file, and you can choose either Word, Excel, or Powerpoint.
As for changes in the desktop app, you can now share directly when you right click a file on your Dropbox. You won’t have to copy the link or be redirected to the web version. You can also choose whether they can view or can edit the file. You can also choose to share just one file to specific people who will have to log in to see it. If you’re a Dropbox Basic user and you backup your photos on your phone, you now need to connect your account to a computer so it will be easier to manage your files.
There are some other things you will be able to enjoy like commenting on specific parts of a file to make collaboration easier and also a file’s version history is available so you can go back to prior versions in case you need to retrieve an old idea. There is no announcement yet when all these changes will be available for Android, but hopefully soon.
