One of the things we love about Dropbox is that we can automatically backup our photos and videos from our smartphones and tablets to the app. But more than likely, they take up most of your space in the service, and if your cloud storage space is limited, then that can be a problem. Dropbox thinks it has found a small solution and that is to slightly change the auto camera upload backup process for those on the Basic user tier.
By July 22, you would need to connect your Dropbox account to a computer to be able to continue using that feature. The other more expensive option is to upgrade your free Basic account to Dropbox Pro where you’d have to pay $9.99/month ($99/year) but you get 1TB of space plus other features of course, including the camera upload as you know it now.
Dropbox says the reason why they’re changing this is because Basic users have limited space in their account. So if you connect your account to a computer, you’d be able to transfer the photos and videos directly to your computer so you won’t run out of space. Or they could just be hoping that you’d upgrade to the paid tier if you still want your media to automatically and directly backup on your cloud storage.
The auto upload will automatically be disabled by July 22, but you can enable it anytime when you do either of the two options presented above. The photos previously stored on Dropbox will not be affected even if you choose to do neither. You will also be able to still manually add photos and videos to your cloud, as long as you still have space of course.
