It’s good that some developers take time to inject some self-awareness into the mobile games industry. Amid the skyrocketing budgets, movie tie-ins, and vicious graphics, there are some people who have not lost their sense of humor and just want to make fun of the games themselves. That is what Doom & Destiny is – and RPG that parodies, err… well, RPGs.

Make no mistake about it, though – there is a solid and fun game behind all the jokes in Doom & Destiny, which is what makes the game a double success. It’s been around for a bit now, but it’s making a comeback in both free and paid versions. The game is about four friends who are on their way to an RPG gaming session but get swept up into their own RPG world where they are forced into being heroes and saving a princess, no less.

There are four types here – stereotypes, mostly, but still fun. Users have a group made up of Nigel the Mage, Johnny the Warrior, Francis the Ninja, and Mike the Cleric, or Pirate, whatever the case may be. The gameplay is classic Final Fantasy turn-based battle system, and you get to journey and dungeon crawl to earn money to get the loot. Pretty standard. But there will be parody jokes all around.

There’s a free version – with ads, but no annoying IAPs. The paid version is on an Easter Sale as of writing, no ads, just pure RPG. It’s 60% off, so that means the game will only cost you USD$1.99. Go for it!

      • No worries though. Devs say it’s 20+ hours worth of game time….. their asking price of $5 is way better than (say) SQNX and their $15.99 Final Fantasy pricing.
