RPG developer Beamdog has finally done it, the “enhanced edition” of the circa-2000 classic Icewind Dale has finally dropped and is available for Android now. If you don’t remember Icewind Dale – which is a very big doubt – this game was the millennium follow-up to the critically acclaimed Baldur’s Gate. Both franchises should be readily familiar (and nostalgic) to fans of these Dungeons and Dragons-based RPGs.
Beamdog had already brought Baldur’s Gate back to life with its own enhanced edition, to the delight of D&D fans on Android. Not surprisingly, these Wizards of the Coast/Forgotten Realms franchises still have strong fan bases to this day – of which some of us here at AC are included.
Beamdog says that you can expect Icewind Dale to be the same pure D&D RPG that you’ve known, plus a few enhancements. The developers have brought multiplayer cooperative cross-platform gameplay to the table, and they have tweaked the interface to update it to modern standards. If we’re not mistaken, the game app should include the “Heart of Winter” and the “Trials of the Luremaster” expansion sets, although the app description does not mention it.
The game is a paid download from the Google Play Store, it shows up right now at USD$9.00 – same as the Baldur’s Gate game app. Check it out at the source link. Give us a holler if you’ve tried the game.
