If you own any of these devices, then you’re getting a Christmas gift: the LG G3 S, G3 Beat, G2 Mini, Optimus L70 will be getting CyanogenMod’s nightly builds and they are available immediately for download and flashing. This is good news since these older and mid-level devices will probably not receive an upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This is their only chance to enjoy features since the CyanogenMod 13 is based on the latest update to Android.
If you’re new to the Android world or are not familiar with the term, CyanogenMod, or CM, is an open-sourced operating system that is based on the Android mobile platform. Every time there is an official release by Google, they add original and third-party code to create an “enhanced” version of the release. In this case, CyanogenMod 13 is based on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. And since a lot of devices have yet to receive the official upgrade, this means that those who upgrade to CM 13 will be able to enjoy the new features, albeit unofficial, first.
The LG G3 S was a lower version of the G3 flagship from two years ago and was released a late last 2014. The LG G3 Beat is also a variant of that flagship and sold in other territories. The LG G2 Mini is an even older device that is a variant of the G2 flagship while the Optimus L70 is an entry level device. It joins a host of other Android smartphones and tablets from various OEMs.
But of course, as with a lot of unofficial builds and systems, you have to install at your own risk. Your device has to be rooted and because of this rooting, your warranty will be voided. And if you need to access the Google Play Store and other Google services, you need to have the latest GApps ZIP package.
